In The Polis, The Kids In The Hall

A rocket exploded on the door and sent everyone scrambling for cover. Billy was closest to the door and took a quick glance before tossing a grenade through the hole now gracing its' center. Bruce pried open the back door he had discovered and shined a light inside. He looked over his shoulder at Billy as the grenade exploded in the hall outside.

“This looks good!”
“How good?” shouted Billy.
“Good enough.” he replied.
Billy stepped up to the hole and fired off six or seven rounds then stepped back and shouted. “Incoming!”

We all hit the deck as a second round shot through the hole and exploded on the rear wall. It didn't have much of a bang and I looked at the others. Bruce just shrugged and looked at Billy who waved towards the back door. Bruce took off as I crossed the room then looked back at Billy who was putting a few more rounds into the hall. I whistled and he turned. Holding a Mix Charge in my hand I set it on the floor just inside the back door then turned to follow Bruce. Whoever was out there had to know the place better than we did which meant our way out could be an ambush. 20 meters down I found Bruce looking into a large room. There was one door on the opposite wall and another to our left. Presumably it lead in the direction of our ambushers and it should have been open and full of bad guys waiting for us to cross. We were both using night vision now but I switched to thermal for a second opinion. Not a thing. More firing behind us and I knew time wasn't going to stand still while we gawked. Tapping Bruce on the shoulder I stepped into the room and pivoted to face the left hand door. Bruce followed to my right.

“Nothing here.” he said.
“Why aren't they using that door?” I replied.
“Hell if I know.” he said then added. “We don't have much time.”
“Watch it.” I said then sprinted across the room.

Nothing happened so I crouched with my back to the wall to cover Bruce. Pointing to my goggles I pointed to the left door. I still didn't like it. Bruce ran up to it in a crouch and paused for a closer look before trying the handle.

“Peckers jammed.” he said. “Probably locked and nobodies got the key.”
